Tony Giuliano
Tony Giuliano is a Los Angeles–based painter whose work is deeply inspired by the natural landscapes of California. Since moving to Los Angeles in 1997, he has made his home in a century-old Spanish house in Echo Park, where he lives with his wife, Maren. Drawing daily inspiration from his surroundings, Giuliano’s practice is rooted in observation and a profound connection to nature. An avid walker and runner, he spends much of his time exploring the terrain that informs his work.
Born in Rochester, New York, Giuliano’s artistic path began early through classes at the Memorial Art Museum. In 1985, he won a national painting competition, an experience that solidified his commitment to pursuing art. He later earned a degree in advertising and design, but felt increasingly drawn toward fine art. His journey eventually led him to New Mexico, where he received a full scholarship to a painting program and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. During this time, he was also selected to attend the D. H. Lawrence Summer Intensive, where students traveled throughout the Four Corners region, painting and drawing the landscapes of the American Southwest.
Giuliano’s background in design informs the patterned motifs that appear throughout his paintings. Combined with his love of painting, these elements create compositions with a fractal-like quality. The intricate patterns weave and spiral across the canvas, guiding the viewer’s eye on a visual journey. His work explores the relationship between the micro and the macro, blending structure and intuition in luminous, layered compositions that echo the rhythms and interconnectedness of the natural world.
For Giuliano, painting is both a creative practice and a form of physical meditation. He is deeply engaged with the process itself, continually drawn back into the studio by the transformative experience of making art. In addition to his studio practice, he has been a dedicated yoga teacher for more than two decades, sharing his passion for movement, mindfulness, and yoga philosophy.
